The specific interest of this project is to explore the links between international financial levers and higher education, research and innovation systems in the Sahelian region. CWTS contributes to the SAFIRE project by identifying publications from the Sahel region (Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, and Chad) between 1980 and 2017. CWTS will study the citation, funding and collaboration patterns in the region, and perform a leadership analysis. Top institutions and top funders in the Sahel countries will be identified and characterized bibliometrically.
