Sarah Schönbauer is a guest researcher at the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS), Leiden university. In 2019, she received her PhD from the Science and Technology Studies Department, university of Vienna, in which she focused on academic knowledge cultures in transition and identity work of environmental scientists. In her first postdoc at the Department of Science, Technology and Society, TU Munich, she developed a strong interest in human-environment relations with a specific interest in the increasing research on, reporting about, and political regulation of (micro)plastics in the environment. As an “Erwin Schrödinger fellow” of the Austrian Science Fund (beginning March 2022) she is a guest researcher in Sarah de Rijcke’s ERC-funded “Fluid Knowledge” project. She researches how the role of environmental scientists is changing in contemporary societies with a specific focus on how marine scientists engage with environmental changes in their work and public activities.
