Zohreh Zahedi, PhD

Zohreh Zahedi is a visiting researcher at the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) of Leiden University. She holds PhD degree in Quantitative Studies of Science specializing in Social Media Metrics & Research Evaluation from CWTS, Leiden University.

Her PhD thesis focused on the possibilities and applications of social media metrics (altmetrics)  for informing research evaluation. In particular, she studied the presence and distribution of different social media metrics across fields of science, publication years, and document types and their relationship with traditional impact indicators. Moreover, she thoroughly investigated critical challenges regarding data quality issues of social media data and how the data collection and reporting approaches of different altmetric data aggregators influence both technically and conceptually the social media metrics provided.

Zohreh was also involved in some altmetrics and bibliometrics projects at CWTS among others ‘Knowledge in the Making in European Society’, ‘Social media profiles of African research’, and ‘Eurostars Social Impact Analytics Graph’.

Zohreh is currently the member of Quantitative Science  Studies (QSS) research group and particularly contributes to the research line in altmetrics. Her research focuses on studying the interactions between social media and science (Social Media Study of Science). Studying the various interactions of social media users with various content shared on social media platforms provides great opportunity for obtaining valuable insights into the communications between different social media audiences and actors.
