Dr. Tjitske Holtrop

Tjitske Holtrop is a senior researcher and director of culture and inclusion at the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) at Leiden University. She is a coordinator of the Engagement & Inclusions focal area and a member of the Evaluation & Culture focal area.

Tjitske is an anthropologist and obtained her PhD degree in 2017 from the University of Amsterdam with a study on the complex coming-into-being of the evaluation of the Dutch civil-military mission in Afghanistan. At CWTS, Tjitske’s work is on the academic culture and organization of recognition and reward, societal relevance and research quality. Studying and developing strategies that help us understand and talk about these complex issues collectively is central to her work. She is involved in projects on recognition and reward, inter- and transdisciplinarity, responsible research and innovation, and self assessment.
