Anouk Spelt is a researcher and a project manager at the Citizen Science Lab at the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) of Leiden University in the Netherlands. She coordinates and manages several Citizen Science projects, such as ‘the NestWacht’ and ‘European Citizen Science Project’. Besides this she is also the Community Manager of Citizen Science Netherlands (CS-NL), the national network for Citizen Science practioners and part of the National Programme Open Science (NPOS). In this role she has helped to shape the national strategy for Citizen Science in the Netherlands.
Her background is in biology with a specific focus on both urban and behaviour ecology. She conducted a PhD about the foraging behaviour of urban gulls at the University of Bristol, United Kingdom. Alongside the PhD she developed a public engagement activity for school children related to her PhD and actively involved the public in her research by inviting them to search for gulls that were ringed.
